St Albans City Youth FC - Match Reports w/e 14th May 2017
St Albans City Youth - Boys
The 18 East WFL played Hadley Wood & Wingate Foxes in the final of the Spring Shield and although they won 3-1 it should have been a cricket score by all accounts. Scoring the goals were Lucas Martindale, Ollie Pawlaczek and Cain Joseph who unfortunately broke his collar bone soon after, we wish him all the best.
In the WHYL Challenge Cup Final saw the 18 South lose 6-0 despite the young Saints putting up a battling display and Youness Bakhti won the the MOM Award.
The 13 South had the majority of the play against Park Street Village in their Division 2 league match but failed to take their chances and finally lost 3-2. Alex Laking-Jerez and MOM Zak Raidi scored the goals for the South.
The 13 North played two matches last week and in the first saw them play Harvesters East away 3-1 with Louis Sampson scoring two goals and Thomas Coulling one. The MOM went to keeper Finlay Tetlow.
In the their next game the North played their club mates the 13 East Blue at home and following a close match saw the North emerge winners by three goals to two. Scoring goals for the North were Jamie Kerr, Louis Sampson and Daniel Curran(that's my boy). The Mom went to Wasim Boksh but it was a close thing as keeper Finlay Tetlow once again was brilliant between the sticks. Scoring for the 13 East Blue were Charlie Battle and Daniel Gant.
Away to London Colney Blues were the 12 North and they finally won 3-2 after a very close and tight match with Jake Berry scoring a hat-trick.
Under 10 South - Cuffley Tournament Winners
The Under 10 South came out on top by winning the Cuffley tournament after winning 3 penalty shoot outs and a local derby en route. I think it is fair to say that all the boys and parents were very happy. A special thanks to Ben Kelly who has coached the boys for past couple of years and whilst he was not there to watch today he would have been proud of them all too.
In the group stage of the tournament the South won 3 and drew 1 to top the group.
Stevenage Timbers 1-0 (Freddie Yeo)
Potters Bar Black 0-0
Cuffley Zeps 4-0 (Owen Weaver 2, Freddie Yeo 2)
Risden Wood Colts 1-0 (James Beasley)
In the quarter final the South played a tight game vs Ware Lions. It was 0-0 AET and so to penalties. Which the South won 4-3 thanks to some superb saves from goalie Ben Pearman.
In the Semi Final we played against fellow clubmates the City Youth Under 10 North. With many friendships and school mates on both sides it was a strange edgy game with very few clear cut chances. Again it finished 0-0 AET and so to penalties. I think nerves got the better of some of the players but we ultimately won 3-2.
In the final the South played Chars Youth Blues. It was a tough match and with the South falling behind in the 2nd half. However the boys responded fantastically and forced home an equaliser with a minute left to play from Josh Smith. There were no more goals in extra time and so to penalties again for the 3rd time in an hour. Again some superb goalkeeping from Ben resulted in another 3-2 win to begin some great celebrations.
All the 8 players had played their part in a great team effort and they deserved to win the trophy for their sheer resilience in the shoot outs especially those boys who had previously missed but stepped up in the final to take another penalty.
The 10 Orient played Harvesters North in a friendly on Sunday morning and for the young Saints their were goals from Antonio Desiderio who finished off a brilliant team move whilst there were also two great strikes from Bertie Postema and he was also outstanding in midfield.
