St Albans City Youth FC Engage with The Community During Lockdown

St Albans City Youth FC Engage with The Community During Lockdown The 1,100 young players across 86 teams at St Albans City youth FC may not be able to enjoy playing matches or training at present but the Community focused Club continues to reach out to its members and their families to ensure that everyone stays fit, healthy and engaged during the latest lockdown. Football Development Manager, Charlie Boswell and Football Development Officer, Anthony Gosling are delivering in excess of 10 online sessions a week to the City Youth family comprising the Girls, Boys and Inclusive Sections. Whilst some sessions have focused on football skills and activities other sessions have included quizzes, home baking challenges and ‘Activity Bingo’. Charlie commented, “As a club St Albans City Youth FC is at the heart of the community of St Albans and we understand the role we can play in supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of our players. The children are missing their sport and their friends, and we are doing what we can to fill that void.” Individual teams have also been doing their bit organising squad quizzes, ‘meet ups’ and activities. Great examples are the U11 Girls Central Squad, managed by Chris Johnson had an online Transatlantic session with their friends DPA Cobras in Dayton, Ohio in the USA and Andy Paine’s U12 Wildcats have been doing a sponsored run to raise money for NHS charities. The Inclusive Squads have been meeting up every Saturday over Zoom supported by coaches Tom Ward, Paul Spink, Chris Samways and Inclusive Section Coordinator Tracy Light. The players recently decided to undertake a challenge to see if they could collectively undertake a ‘virtual’ walk the 950 kilometres from St Albans to Lairg in Scotland. If you would like to support and sponsor their efforts they are raising money for the Club. https://localgiving.org/fundraising/inclusive-team-lockdown-walking-challenge/ Read more
