Statement from the Board of Trustees

Cancellation of Presentation Day 2021

It is with great regret and sadness that the Board of Trustees wish to inform the whole St Albans City Youth FC family that our Club's annual Presentation Day due to be held at Clarence Park, the home of St Albans City FC, on Sunday 4th July has been cancelled.

The event, our annual day of celebration, had been planned in the hope that the Government would be in a position to successfully continue on its planned roadmap with the lifting of all COVID-19 related restrictions on June 21st. Our extensive planning, that began back in March, also attempted to take into account that if all restrictions were not lifted as hoped then that by July 4th a large-scale outdoor event could be delivered in a way that was both COVID secure and also enjoyable for us all.

However, following the Government's disappointing announcement on Monday the Club consulted with our hosts, St Albans City FC, regarding the safeguards that would be required were we to attempt to hold the event in a responsible way that was fully COVID secure but importantly would also still deliver a meaningful and fun experience for attendees. Sadly, as our discussions progressed and with the knowledge that the Government scientists had declared that the 'Delta' variant was spreading amongst school aged children and young adults in Hertfordshire, we jointly came to the conclusion that it was not ethical or socially responsible to hold a mass participation event involving hundreds of our children at this time.

On Wednesday afternoon the decision was then taken completely out of our hands as the SAGE Committee at St Albans District Council, following consultations with Public Health England, ruled that the event must not go ahead. We fully supported the decision.

As a Trustee Board we are deeply disappointed, as we are sure that you are, that Presentation Day has not afforded us the opportunity to thank you all for your efforts over this most difficult of seasons or the chance to celebrate together in the sunshine. We know however, that the Club will come back stronger again in our Golden Anniversary season.

We are sure that you have many questions regarding; brochures, pennants, Player of the Year Trophies and of course refunds for tickets you may have purchased for the event. Full details will be sent to Managers and Coaches over the weekend which can be shared with family and friends. Information will also appear on the Club website www.cityyouthfc.co.uk .

Finally, the Trustees hope that squads will still gather together on July 4th as planned and have their own individual celebrations that can be held both safely and enjoyably within the Government guidelines.

Thank you for your understanding,

The Board of Trustees, St Albans City Youth FC
