The St Albans City Youth Disability First Team had one of the their best ever results when they defeated Bury Town 3-2 in a tricky away fixture on 16th March. Ben Kelly had only just been appointed the player manager the week before and was thrown in at the deep end against a strong Bury Team that had knocked us out last season. Ben said "It only goes to show how far the team have come in the last 12 months.
The game started badly for the young St Albans team with Bury taking a 2 - 0 lead, everyone thought the result was going to be the same as before. Things started to change when 3 of the St Albans players exchanged passes on the edge of the area before Adam Simpson coolly slotted the ball into the net to make it 2 - 1. This team goal seemed to inspire everyone and we were not surprised when Sean Ellingham made it a Desmond 2-2 shortly before half time.
A strong team talk by Ben and Danny at half time did the trick with Sean scoring an inspired third goal in the second period. This meant that St Albans, despite intense pressure from Bury, Toby and the rest of the lads were able to hang on to a memorable victory. John "Whippet" Webster was named as the "Man of the Match" for his hard work and his encouragement throughout the match.
