The St Albans City Youth Disability lads progressed to the semi-final of the Rymans Cup for the first time but were drawn against the experienced Charlton Deaf Team.
They were an "athletic" team who used their sloping pitch to their own advantage and took an early lead. Both teams had chances but Charlton were more clinical in front of goal and so extended their lead before half time.
An unfortunate handball outside of his area stunned the St Albans City goalkeeper Toby Smith so much that he looked bemused with himself as he left the field. This decision spurred on Matt Dobbs who was fouled at he drove forward, on yet another forward run, into the penalty area. Player/manager Ben Kelly converted the spot kick.
Sam Goldney, Matt Caller and Lee Sparrow worked hard with John "whippet" Webster doing well as the reserve keeper. The 10 man Saints eventually going down 7-1.
The St Albans lads have had a great season and are proud to have represented the County in both the FA Disability Cup and Rymans Cup this season.
