City Youth Match Reports Under 11s 83/84 Season - Tezzas Days gone bye

matchreportsnew2

Tezza is looking back through his old City Youth reports and found more from 35 years ago, this time the focus is on the Under 11's.

Well done Terry Edwards.

Tezza thinks the season 1983-84 is the first season that youth team match reports appeared in programmes of St Albans City FC, is that correct, we will never know until he finds more of his old programmes!

The reason the Youth reports appeared in the Saints programme was due to Tezza taking on the role of Programme Editor for the Saints a few years before,  so he thought why not put them in and let the supporters know that about all the great young players playing football in and around St Albans District.

1983-84 SEASON.

TUESDAY AUGUST 16TH MAIDENHEAD UTD FRIENDLY.  In the forthcoming season St Albans City Youth FC will be running Youth sides at all ages from Under 10's to Under 18's. In addition, there will be a midweek Under 18's youth team, and they will be playing in the Servowarm Isthmian Youth league plus the F. A. Youth Cup with their first match in this seeing them play Kettering Youth away.

As a warmup to the season saw the Saints Youth enter 7 teams in the Amersham Town six-a-side tournament and they came away with 4 victories in the Under 13's, 14's, 16's and 18's sections, well done lads.

The young Saints ran out worthy winners in the highly entertaining charity match which was watched by a crowd well over 200. Stefan SARWA opened the scoring for the Saints when he ran from the halfway line and after beating two defenders, he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. Paul TARRIER scored the St Albans City Youth's second goal after he saw his first attempt strike the foot of the post but he was quick to latch onto the rebound and tuck the loose ball away to make it 2-0 at half time. At the start of the second half Gary Lockerby had a shot turned away for a corner kick which was headed home by Andy GOODCHILD from six yards into the far corner of the net. Then later Bert Robertson hit over a superb cross over into the Harpenden box whereupon Stefan SARWA was waiting to head home goal number four the Saints. Late in the match with a minute to go saw Harpenden pull a goal back to make the final score 4-1. Team: Cox, Gear, Fitzgerald, Honourd, Goodchild, Dunham, Tarrier, Robertson, Lockerby, Grindrod, Sarwa. Subs: Birch, Parker, Dodds (all played).

Andy Goodchild made 49 appearances for the St Albans City FC 1st team in the late 80's and he also played Barnet and Bishop's Stortford plus a couple of other clubs as well but he did come back to St Albans when he ran a youth team from Under 10's up to 18's plus being in charge of the midweek squad at St Albans. His father Nicky Goodchild also played for St Albans whilst Andy's son Danny played for his youth and the Saints midweek youth team.
