CITY YOUTH FC MATCH REPORTS SEASON 2001/02 WEEK ENDING 18TH 2001.
FOOTNOTE: In the St. Albans City F.C. team on this day is Richard Evans and guess what I do thing he is helping to run a City Youth team in the this current season 2019-20 but he also his very late in texting in his results, come on Richard.
MIDWEEK YOUTH: For the second week running the Saints Midweek Youth Team let a 3-1 lead slip to drop vital points in the Allied Counties East Division Championship away at Wembley. A spectacular overhead kick from Craig Mackail-SMITH, a drive from Greg DEACON and a close-range effort from Iaian TURKENTINE put the Saints 3-1 up and in command. Then a lack of concentration by the Saints defence let the home team Wembley to hit back with two late goals for the match to end up all square at 3-3 and so two vital points are dropped again.
The Under 18's South were at home to Headstone Manor in the challenge cup and although they were always in the lead throughout the match, they had to fight all the way in the end to secure a 5-3 victory. Jamie PARSONS scored the first 2 goals of which the second one was a beautiful curling shot from 20 yards. The other scorers were Ben GRAHAM, Ollie FRANKS and Kenny HULL who fired home the rebound after another great strike from Jamie Parsons had struck the foot of the post. Greg (the Cat) Deacon had a brilliant game in goal for the young Saints.
Away to Cassiobury Rangers saw the Under 17's asleep in the first half and after twice being a goal down they came back to gain at half time a 2-2 draw. The young Saints could have also been in-front just before the break but for a missed penalty when Allister Collins spot kick hit the outside of the post. A stern but inspirational half time team talk from Coach Mark Clark saw the young Saints turn in a far different performance in the second half. With the Under 17's really turning things on saw them run out winners by eight goals to two, 8-2. Scoring all the goals were Allister COLLINS 2, Chris BERGIN 2, Iaian TURKENTINE 2, Matt JONES and Chris SEEBY.
The Under 16's were away to Bengeo Tigers and they finally won 4-2 after early on they missed a penalty kick which was taken by Matt Hanson. James HARVEY scored the first goal whilst Jack WELSH the equaliser before Matt HANSON and Raonull MacKinnon struck late on with two more goals to take all the points with a
Andrew Sharp was named man of the match for the Under 15's East as they fought out a hard 0-0 draw at home to Sun Postal.
Under 15's West also earned a point in a 1-1 draw at home to EDRS Stonegrove with James COOK giving the Saints an early lead but only for the visitors to snatch a late equaliser.
Both the Under 14's sides lost with the East finally losing 3-1 away to Chiltern to two second half goals with Dominic HAYNES scoring the East's goal.
The West went down 6-1 away to Bradwell in the East Anglian Cup with Phil WOOLFORD scoring for the Saints with a cracking free kick.
The Under 13's North were away to Sun Postals and although the Saints battled hard, they eventually went down 4-2 with Chris HASLAM and Ricky MILLER scoring for the Saints.
A late consolation goal from Alex FRASER for the Under 13's South as they went down 3-1 away to Palace Youth North.
Playing Birchwood away in the league saw the Under 13's Mid Herts win easily by nine goals to nil (9-0) with Robert PULLMAN scoring 6 of the goals to lead the goalscorers. The other goals were scored by Chris JELL with a brace and Louis MacMILLAN with one.
The Under 12's North turned in a below par performance as they lost 4-0 away to Belmont United in the league.
At home to Tring Tornadoes the Under 12's South played a great game to win the 3-0 with man of the match Robbie PHILLIPS opening the scoring and then came goals from Jack SMITH and Scott CORLEY to round up the scoring.
With the score at 1-1 at half time saw the Under 11's West turn in a stunning second half display of football to beat Aldenham Eagles away 4-1. Nick GLASGOW scored in the first half whilst man of the match Daniel BISSELL put the Saints in front early in the second period. The other goals came from Michael GAMBLE and Ethan GOGARTY.
The Under 10's North lost 3-0 at home to Whetstone whilst the Under 10's South lost by the odd goal in seven 4-3 away to Boreham Wood 2000 in the league. Gareth SMITH and James LAW hit the goals for the Saints with the latter hitting home a loose ball in the box after a Ethan Douglas free kick had hit the post. The other goal was an own goal.
Away to Oakhill Cubs saw the Under 10's West win 1-0 when man of the match Elliott GOWARD scored the winner with only five minutes to go.
The Under 8's were 2-0 down at half time at home to Comets Red but on came super sub Tom REDDINGS playing his first game for the Saints and he went on to setup two goals for the Saints both of which were scored by Alex GOLDSTONE to earn the young Saints a 2-2.
