City Youth Match Reports - Tezza's Days Gone Bye - 1995 Paul McHugh Programme

There were three teams playing in the County Cup on Sunday and the first one was the Under 11's East who were away to Welwyn Eagles and after a quite first half the goals really started to flow in the second period with the young Saints going on to win 12-0. Man, of the Ben HERD lead the goal scoring with five well taken efforts whilst his brother Tom HERD who came on as sub in the second half scored four goals. The other scorers were David ADAMS, Robert ADE and Chris SEEBY.

The second team in the county cup were the Under 13's who were away to Panshanger Whites and the young Saints won convincingly by eight goals to two (8-2). Scoring the goals for the Under 13's were Chris GOODIER 2, Chris DUNDON 2, Andrew CLARKE, Paul BREMNER, Daniel TANSLEY and Paul ADAMS which his first for the club and it was a well taken low drive from the edge of the box.

The third side were the Under 15's who were also away, and they were playing Hemel Celtic and the Saints went onto win 9-0 with most of their goals coming in the second half as well. Goalscorers were Paul GOOM 3, John MARTIN 3, Matthew DAY 2 and James HARMSWORTH with one.

At last this season the Under 14's East showed what they are capable of when they defeated Camden Youth at home 7-1. The score was 2-0 at half time but in the second period the young Saints really turned it on with some lovely flowing football and they were rewarded with five more goal of which the pick of them was a low drive from 25 yards from Tom CROWNE which was his second of the match after he scored one in the first half from ten yards. The other goalscorers were Henry WILKINSON 2, Paul TAYLOR 2 and a well-placed header from Chris FAIRBAIRN. 

Playing their first league match of the season in the Bushey League Blue Division were the Under 11's West who were away to Berkhamsted Town and the Saints came away with a sound a 5-2 victory. They were 4-0 up at half time with two goals apiece from Alistair COLLINS and Billy SMITH the second of his which came about after he beaten two players and the keeper before slotting the ball into an empty net. Craig FINDLAY scored the Saints fifth goal with a cracking 25-yard volley.

Away to East Finchley saw the Under 14's West lose 7-1 with Nathan WILLIAMS scoring the Saints only goal in a match which saw them completely outplayed.

Marc FARROW went off injured after only thirty minutes play playing for the Under 16's away to Woodhall Wanderers but by that time he had done enough by scoring a hat-trick to give the Saints a 3-0 lead. Although down to ten players they kept going and were rewarded with a fourth goal scored by Steven BOOTH to see the Saints finally win 4-1.

The Under 17's at home to Croxley Whites took the lead after nine minutes through Matt PHILLIPPS and then two goals from Antonio PEPE gave the Saints a 3-1 lead at half time. In the second half further goals from Simon MARTIN, Stephen RAY and Iain HAMBLEN saw the Under 17's finally win 6-2. The highlight of the day was to see David Hames set up the final goal in the last ten minutes after he come on as sub in what proved to be his first match back from having a broken leg.

In a very exciting match, the Under 12's were away to Sun Postals in the Challenge Cup and although the Saints went 3-0 up Sun Postals fought back to make it 3-3 at half time. In the second period was a different story with the young Saints scoring four times with reply to go on and win 7-4 and scoring all the Under 12's goals were Adam WALLACE 3, Dean PARSONS, Oliver FRANKS, Greg DEACON plus one own goal. 

At home to Suffolk Colts in the league cup saw the Under 10's really have a good game and they went on to win 4-1 with goals from Raonull McKINNON 2, Matthew HANSON and Oliver COOPER-MILLER following a fine team display. 

The Under 18's South were away to London Colney and following and a real end to end match saw the Saints despite battling well throughout the game lose the match 2-0 to a goal in each half.


The Under 18's West were at home to Ware Town in the County Cup and they turned on a beautiful display of passing football to win the match easily 12-0. The pick of the goals was a 25-yard drive from Andre BALADI whilst the other goalscorers were Robbie McKANE 4, Simon MARTIN 4, Mark SHADBOLT 2 and Nick COX.

 At home to Bushey Rangers in the league cup saw the Under 11's twice come back from a goal down to finish the match at 2-2 and force extra time. Chris SEEBY scored their first goal with a cracking 20-yard rising drive and then Sam BIBB scored the second equaliser with a low shot from sixteen yards. The young Saints though went out on the penalty shoot-out 3-2 with Chris SEEBY and Matthew JONES both converting their spot kicks.

One nil down away to Evergreen Juniors in the league cup saw the Under 11's West hit back with two goals from David AIREY either side of the half time break. Two more goals from Billy SMITH saw the Saints finish as 4-1 winners but it could have been more if two efforts from Alistair Collins had gone in instead of hitting the crossbar.

At home to Hemel Aces in the County Cup saw the Under 10's really strike form with a 7-0 victory with goals from Matthew HANSON 3, Ricky FARMER 2, Mark SMITH and one own goal meanwhile the Under 14's West lost 3-0 at home to Mill Hill Rovers also in a County Cup tie.

The Under 14's East turned it on again to defeat Whetstone Wanderers 9-2 in a league match with the man of the match Henry WILKINSON scoring a hat-trick with his third goal being a stunning shot from thirty yards. The other goalscorers were Chris CUTMORE 2, Tom CROWNE 2 and Nick PERCHARD 2.

Away to Chambersberry Hawks saw the Under 13's come away with a 4-1 victory after being a goal down early in the match. Kevin COULSON scored a fine hat-trick whilst the fourth goal was a right foot volley from Andrew CLARKE. 

The Under 12's at home to Bushey Rangers were three times a goal down but they came back each time to win finally 4-3 in a fighting comeback. Adam WALLACE made it 1-1 whilst two goals from Ryan HUGHES and one from Greg DEACON in the second half made sure of the points.

The Under 18's South were away to East Finchley in a very entertaining match before they finally went down 8-3 with Paulo LAZZARA scoring two of the Under 18's goals whilst David CONSTABLE scored the third.

In the first minute of their away match with East Finchley saw the Under 15's go a goal down but then they had a chance to draw level when they won a penalty but alas the resulting spot kick was fired wide. They did equalise later but gave yet another goal away to be 2-1 down at half time. In the second half though it was a different story when the Under 15's at last got their act together to eventually run out 7-2 winners. The goalscorers for the Saints were John MARTIN 2, Paul GOOM 2, Tom GREENWOOD 2 and Samir KHAN.
