E.J.A. League Cup Quarter-Final.

The young Saints had a lot of the early pressure with Jack McShane and Josh Forster both going close and as in these matches AFC Sudbury who were on the back foot then saw them quickly break away and Ben HARRIS fired the ball past the advancing Billy Thomson to take a 1-0 lead. St Albans City thought we got to do something about this and they nearly equalised when Ben Stacey saw his header beat the Sudbury keeper but alas it struck the near post and was scrambled away.

Sean Walsh then made a great surging run from midfield and when he got to the edge of the box on the right he then crossed the ball low into the box whereupon JOSH FORSTER was waiting, and he instantly swept the ball home for the equalising goal.

Joe Vance out on the right wing was proving to be a worry to the visitor’s defence and twice he had good efforts on goal go very close.

Early into the second half saw the St. Albans take the lead and it came about when Josh Forster put the visitor’s keeper under pressure and he miskicked his clearance and the ball fell at the feet of JACK McShane who instantly struck a thunderbolt of a shot from 30 yards into the back of the net to make it 2-1. Soon it was 3-1 when Joe Vance played the ball to Jack McShane who did well down the right wing and cut into the box and squared the ball across for BRADLEY YOUNG to slot home at the far post.

It then became 4-1 when a free kick from the right by Harry Brady saw BENNY STACEY at the far post rise up to send a towering header into the back of the net. Forster had a shot crash into the side netting, Stacey saw a effort go just wide whilst McShane has a header saved late on.
